Recently, I was invited to YouTube’s 4-week virtual bootcamp on setting up memberships for your channel. There were about 80 of us on the call, with creators doing everything from video game content, lifestyle vloggers, mukbang eating videos, motorcycle tutorials, and even inspirational content like me. It felt really nice to be in the same room with like-minded people, who were the face of their channel, who are out here hustling and trying to grow. I wasn’t interested so much in the memberships, but rather being part of a community and seeing what YouTube (in the flesh!) had to say.

Some of the creators were already on Patreon and had questions about how to migrate their audience, and if they should even do so (“give me a good reason to make the switch”) — and there were a lot of questions around the mechanics of how to gift your free memberships, which is one of the features that creators have.
